What is Er YAG Fractional Laser?
Erbium YAG Laser is a specialised and computer controlled removal of layers of the skin’s surface, which can produce outstanding results with minimal risk. The laser can remove both superficial and medium depth lines, including some scarring, depending on the controlled depth of the ablation and the amount of treatments. This Erbium YAG Fractional Laser produces thousands of deep, tiny columns in your skin. It intensively treats old epidermal pigment cells without affecting any of the surrounding tissue, which reduces healing time (about 24 hours) and promotes the skin's natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells. It is a safe, non-invasive procedure that allows you to rediscover the fresh, healthy skin of your youth.
What is Er YAG Fractional Laser Treatment?
Erbium YAG Fractional laser skin treatment is an exciting new technology that successfully corrects many dermatological and cosmetic skin conditions, with increased comfort and minimal post-treatment pain and care. Fractional laser skin treatments give excellent results for skin resurfacing and when correcting skin conditions including scars, superficial lesions, epidermal nevi, actinic chelitis, warts, skin tags, and keratoses. Patients can select the type of sedation used during their treatment. There is no need for any hospitalisation and recovery time after the one hour procedure is generally only two hours before the patient can be discharged to the care of a responsible adult at their own home. There is no pain after the procedure if proper sedation is used none during either. Only some itching or tightness of the skin in the days after as your skin begins its healing response.
The benefits of YAG Er Fractional Laser
Erbium YAG Fractional laser skin treatments have three significant benefits as compared to traditional laser skin treatments:
Increased Comfort – The fractional array of micro beams does not cause bulk damage as traditional ablative treatments do but instead cause small areas of damage each surrounded by undamaged tissue. As a result, fractional treatments are a much gentler laser treatment. Many patients tolerate the treatment well without anaesthesia.
Increased Safety – Following a fractional ablative procedure, each tiny fractional column re-epithelializes (i.e., regrows the missing tissue and closes over) typically within one day. This minimizes the risk of scarring, infection, or long-term pigmentation changes.
Decreased Downtime – Depending on the type of procedure, most fractional patients can return to normal daily activities almost immediately (for fractional non-ablative treatments) or typically within 4 days (for fractional ablative).
The differences between Er YAG Fractional Laser and the traditional laser
Erbium YAG Fractional laser is a significant improvement over fractional CO 2 lasers. Due to the lower wavelength of the Erbium laser as compared to the CO 2 laser and the different water absorption of these two wavelengths, Erbium YAG Fractional lasers can provide significantly deeper penetration. Erbium YAG Fractional Laser gives no-coagulation of the small blood-vessels. Blood is live. Increase the amount of small blood-vessels after the healing process.
How does the Er YAG Fractional Laser treatments work ?
Immediately following the treatment, skin may be mildly red (erythema) and swollen (edema). These effects are normal, and indicate a successful treatment. Any swelling typically subsides within a day, and most redness dissipates within a few days. For ablative procedures, light superficial bleeding and “oozing” may occur. As the redness and swelling subside, a brownish “bronzing” effect will become visible. The bronzing will fade over the next few days as new, healthy skin replaces the laser-treated tissue. Other side effects may include discharge, crusting or scaling, and milia – these too typically resolve within one week.
Er:YAG laser (wave length 2940nm) is a solid-state laser. As there is a high absorption peak for water at this wave length, the skin will be quickly heated when cast on with Er:YAG laser, instantly peeling off pathological tissues. The treatment features a shallow exposing depth. Therefore the affected part can be healed in short time without any recovery time.
